10 Best Hotels in Taroudant: Morocco's “Mini Marrakech”

Updated: Aug 19

If you want a taste of what Marrakech was like before it became Morocco’s most visited city, then Taroudant is the place to go. This atmospheric walled city to the east of Agadir is rapidly increasing in popularity, providing a far more laid-back sightseeing experience compared to the “Red City”.

While you can visit Taroudant as a day trip from Agadir, I’d highly recommend spending a night (or few) to experience everything the area has to offer. Not only are there wonderful souks for handicraft shopping and centuries-old ramparts to explore, but it’s on the doorstep of a palm-studded oasis.

Also nearby is the palatial former home of Chilean artist Claudio Bravo, which boasts an exceptional collection of paintings and artefacts alongside stunning gardens.

In this article, I’ll share 10 of the best hotels in Taroudant, whether you’re after a budget-friendly dar or a high-end riad. While some are located within the walled medina itself, others are set within spacious grounds in the surrounding countryside.

On the northwestern edge of the medina, this whitewashed riad regularly receives praise as the best place travellers have stayed during their Morocco trip. Its rooms and suites are decorated with earthy tiles and bamboo lamps - I particularly love the wooden carvings on the walls and doors. Most are designed for couples, with cots also available on request if you’re travelling with a young child.

At the heart of Dar Salam Souss is a tiled swimming pool, complete with an over-water lounge where you can relax on the colourful cushions.  There are lots of nooks where you can retreat to with a book, as well as a traditional hammam and spa. The included breakfast is really good and the staff can prepare delicious lunches and dinners on request.
